Terms of Service
The calm contract between us.
These Terms explain what you can expect from TwoPennies and what we expect from you. By signing in, you acknowledge that you’re entering a binding agreement with a UK-based sole trader.
Last updated: November 8, 2025 · Effective: November 8, 2025
1. Acceptance of Terms
In short: You must be 18+, able to enter a contract, and these Terms apply whenever you use the product.
TwoPennies is operated by Akshay Menon (sole trader) in the United Kingdom. By creating an account or using any part of the service you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
- You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into contracts.
- Continued use constitutes acceptance of any updated Terms announced per Section 12.
2. Description of Service
In short: TwoPennies is a shared finance OS for couples—insights only, no money movement.
We provide a web application where two people can connect bank accounts (read-only via TrueLayer), view combined dashboards, set fairness rules, manage budgets, goals, subscriptions, and receive Weekly Calm Briefs. TwoPennies is not a bank, does not move money, and does not provide regulated financial advice.
3. Account Registration & Security
In short: Use your own Google account, keep it secure, and tell us if something looks wrong.
- Accounts are created through Google OAuth; the email address must belong to you.
- One account per person. Sharing logins or creating duplicates is not permitted.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your device and notifying us if you suspect unauthorised access.
- We can suspend or terminate access if we detect abuse, account compromise, or Terms violations.
4. Partnership Terms
In short: Partnerships require mutual consent, and either partner can disconnect anytime.
- Invites are sent by one partner and must be accepted by the other before any data is shared.
- Each account chooses which banks, pots, or goals become visible. Private data remains private.
- Ending a partnership stops data sharing instantly but does not delete either account.
- Visibility changes are logged and available inside Settings → Privacy.
5. Bank Connections (TrueLayer)
In short: We only ever see read-only data from TrueLayer. Revoke access whenever you like.
- Connections run through TrueLayer’s FCA-regulated platform; we never see your banking password.
- We store encrypted access tokens solely to sync data for you and your partner.
- You can disconnect a bank at any time from Settings → Connections; we’ll delete the related tokens immediately.
- Bank data accuracy is the responsibility of your bank and TrueLayer. We surface what they provide.
6. Subscription & Billing
In short: £4.99/month per couple after a 7-day free trial, billed via Stripe.
- Free trial: 7 days with full access. A valid payment method is required to start the trial.
- Billing: Stripe charges £4.99/month at the end of the trial and every month thereafter.
- Cancellation: Cancel anytime in Settings → Billing; access continues until the period ends.
- Refunds: We do not offer pro-rated refunds for unused time unless required by law.
- Failed payments: We provide a 3-day grace period; after that, access pauses until payment succeeds.
- Price changes: We’ll email you with at least 30 days’ notice.
7. Acceptable Use
In short: Be respectful, lawful, and don’t try to break or exploit the product.
- Breaking any applicable law or regulation, including financial-services rules.
- Harassing, threatening, or coercing your partner or any other user.
- Attempting to scrape, reverse engineer, or otherwise probe our infrastructure.
- Uploading malware, automated bots, or code that may disrupt the service.
- Sharing login credentials or creating multiple accounts to abuse free trials.
- Misrepresenting your identity or impersonating another person.
We may warn, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this policy. Severe violations can result in permanent bans and legal action.
8. Intellectual Property
In short: We own TwoPennies. You own your data. We each give limited licenses to operate the service.
- All branding, copy, product designs, and code for TwoPennies remain our intellectual property.
- You retain ownership of the financial data you supply to the platform.
- You grant us a limited licence to process your data solely to provide the service.
- We grant you a personal, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the product.
9. Disclaimers & Limits of Liability
In short: We try our best, but we can’t promise perfection or financial outcomes.
- The service is provided “as is.” We don’t guarantee accuracy, uptime, or suitability for your needs.
- We are not your financial advisor. Decisions remain yours.
- To the fullest extent allowed by UK law, our liability is capped at the lower of £100 or three months of subscription fees.
- We are not liable for third-party outages (banks, TrueLayer, Stripe, Resend, Vercel, Sentry).
- You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the service or breach of the law.
10. Data deletion & account termination
In short: You can delete your account anytime. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete account for a full purge within 24 hours (see Privacy Policy for retention exceptions).
- We may terminate or suspend access for violations, security issues, or legal reasons.
- Termination ends access immediately; subscription fees already paid are non-refundable.
- When an account closes, partnerships end but the partner’s personal data remains intact.
11. Dispute resolution
In short: Let’s talk first. English law governs, and the courts of England & Wales have jurisdiction.
Most issues can be resolved quickly by contacting support@twopennies.app. If a dispute escalates, both parties agree that English law applies and the courts of England & Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing prevents you from seeking help through small-claims court.
12. Changes to these Terms
In short: We provide 30 days’ notice via email and an in-app banner before material updates.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll notify you via email and an in-app banner at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the changes. You can always delete your account if you disagree.
13. Contact & legal notices
In short: Email works best while we operate as a sole trader. We’ll share formal registration details ahead of public launch.
- Primary contact: hello@twopennies.app
- Support: support@twopennies.app
- Based in Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Postal details available on request until TwoPennies is incorporated as a Ltd company.
